In early 2026, the Czech Republic announced their new “Digital First” initiative. The goal is to make every government service accessible from your phone, tablet, and laptop! It seems similar to how many business are going “paperless” here in the United States. Due to this new approach, there is now a bigger focus on the transit apps across the country. I used these two apps many times throughout my recent trip and even saved money by doing so!
PID Lítačka or Můj Vlak?
It can be a little confusing at first to know which app you need, or if you should download both for your trip. My first trip to the Czech Republic, like many others, involved staying right in Prague the whole time. If that is the case for you, you will only need the PID Lítačka app, which covers all public transit within the city. However, for train rides that involve travel outside of Prague, you will need the Můj Vlak app. Both were incredibly easy to use and definitely made our trip less stressful!

PID Lítačka
This app is the most affected by the new “Digital First” approach. While some may not think it is significant, in 2026 you can save at least a few crowns (korunas) just by using the app instead of buying a paper ticket. For example, the current cost to purchase a 30-minute ticket in the app is 36 CZK, whereas the paper ticket is 39 CZK. The discount increases the longer the ticket duration you purchase.

Whenever you are traveling within Prague, PID Lítačka will be your go-to. It includes all city buses, trolleybuses, the Metro, trams, suburban “S” trains, the Petřín Funicular, city ferries, and Buses 119 and 59. Note that it does not include the Airport Express or private coaches like FlixBus or RegioJet. The PID Lítačka app is available in both the App Store and the Google Play store, and I can truly see why it is considered one of the most user-friendly transit apps in Europe.

This app made traveling throughout Prague so convenient and easy to navigate. You just type in your starting point and destination, and the app does the rest. As someone who is not fluent in Czech, this took all the stress out of navigating the city and allowed us to confidently explore less touristy areas.
I love this app because it tells you exactly when and where you need to be to get to your destination. Everything is incredibly straightforward, and you don’t even have to create an account if you don’t want to.
To use it, you simply enter your current location and where you want to go. The app will give you one or more routes to choose from. Even if a route involves multiple modes of transportation, it still gives you a seamless, step-by-step plan. These directions were so perfect that we felt confident and never got lost.

Ultimately, this app makes planning your trips and budgeting easy. I highly recommend downloading it ahead of time to map out your itinerary and get fare estimates!
Můj Vlak
The app is managed by České dráhy (the national railway carrier), making it a great tool for navigating the large network throughout the Czech Republic. While there are other private rail carriers depending on where you want to go, I personally used this app and České dráhy many times through my trip and loved the app. If PID Lítačka is your go-to for navigating the Prague, Můj Vlak should be your go-to for everything beyond Prague’s borders. This app is important for anyone planning travel across the Czech Republic and its surrounding countries.

Můj Vlak is amazing for easy booking, real-time train tracking, updates, and seat reservations. While those might not seem important right now, these features are incredibly helpful when you are heading out for a day trip from Prague Main Station (Praha hlavní nádraží). Seat selection is also free, so I was able to pick a window seat for every single trip I took! During the ride, the app even lets you view the train layout so you can see where the bathrooms are and where to get food.

The absolute biggest benefit of using this app is the real-time tracking and live updates. One thing I found fascinating about train travel in the Czech Republic is that most stations don’t post platform or track information until about 15 minutes before the train’s arrival. This usually creates large crowds of people gathering around the departure screens. However, 15 minutes before—and sometimes even earlier—the app would tell me exactly where to go. It kept me instantly updated on delays and even notified me about a track change before it was displayed on the station boards!

The Czech Republic is definitely my favorite country I have ever been to. These two apps made it so easy to plan out my trips and explore more of this incredible country. If you’re planning your own Czech adventure, I highly recommend downloading both before you leave the airport! Are you planning a trip to Prague soon, or hoping to explore the countryside by train?
